UNIDO hosts Roscongress Foundation delegation to define cooperation opportunities
Vienna, 22 September 2017 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) received a delegation from the Roscongress Foundation to exchange ideas on potential areas and modalities of cooperation. The Roscongress Foundation is the largest operator of conferences and exhibitions with an economic and social focus in the Russian Federation. Philippe Scholtès, Managing Director, Programme Development and Technical Cooperation, recapitulated UNIDO’s history of successful interaction with the Foundation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) and highlighted the numerous opportunities for future cooperation on the promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
The Director of the Roscongress Foundation, Alexander Stuglev, outlined a growing portfolio of events managed by his organization since 2007. This includes large annual forums such as SPIEF, the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, and the Energy Efficiency and Energy Development International Forum. All of these forums aim to establish a communication platform connecting governments, the business community, experts and media to exchange ideas and leverage partnerships. Roscongress is in the process of establishing its own analytical centre and expressed interest in exploring cooperation with UNIDO on expanding experts’ networks.
UNIDO presented its services and tools in various areas such as building international business alliances, women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship, investment promotion, circular economy, and industry 4.0. UNIDO also provided an update on the upcoming Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) in 2019 and the Global Forum on Convergent Technologies for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development in 2018.
